CAMP FAQ

We believe kids need fresh air and movement breaks during a full creative day. Outdoor time gives their bodies and brains a chance to reset, helps with focus, and adds a fun change of scenery. Campers usually spend up to a maximum of one hour outside (weather permitting), including the walk to and from the park.

Fresh air isn’t just “nice to have”—it’s essential. Even the quietest, most artsy kids benefit from a little time to stretch their legs, breathe deeply, feel the breeze, and reconnect with the outdoors. A quick dose of nature helps regulate energy, boosts mood, reduces restlessness, and makes the rest of the day more enjoyable and productive.

And don’t worry — we only go out when it’s safe and comfortable for everyone. If it’s too hot, too cold, rainy, or unpleasant, we stay inside. Our staff are always with the kids, and if it wouldn’t be enjoyable for us, we won’t expect it to be enjoyable for them!

We love taking the kids to Robert Gray Park (147 Gray Crescent, just an 8–10 minute walk away). If the group is feeling energetic, we’ll sometimes visit Ed Hollyer Park (55 Bellrock Drive, a 12–15 minute walk). On lower-key days, we keep things simple with free play or sketching time in the courtyard.

The short walk itself is surprisingly fun — campers love chatting, making up silly songs, noticing things around them, and using that little transition time to reset and recharge.

Once we reach the park, outdoor time can include:

  • Playground structures
  • Running, cartwheels, and open play
  • Chalk games
  • Group movement games
    Observational sketching (seasonal)

We always come prepared with outdoor activities and games, but honestly, the kids almost always just want to run, play, laugh, and let loose — and that’s exactly what they need. It’s a simple, joyful break from indoor creative work and gives them room to be kids.

Crafts are always theme-related to the camp — dance, fashion, vocal/music, or performing arts. Depending on the weather, sketching may be done outside in our courtyard, where kids can draw what they see and practice observing shapes, lines, and colours.

What started as a small creative experiment quickly became one of the kids’ favourite camp activities — we were honestly surprised by how much they loved it. Because it was so well-received, sketching time is now a permanent part of all our camps!

It’s also a wonderful, low-pressure way to build observation skills and spark creativity while still having fun.

All of our camps include elements of movement and performance, because singing, acting, and dancing naturally support one another.
Dance helps with rhythm, confidence, musicality, staging, and expression — skills that benefit all performers.

Because it’s so much fun! And also because karaoke builds confidence, stage presence, rhythm, vocal projection, and teamwork in a fun, low-pressure way. It’s one of the campers’ favourite activities and helps them feel more comfortable performing.

This is a low-key activity and no one is forced to participate if they don’t feel like it!

Campers vote on age-appropriate games throughout the week. Choices may include movement games like Red Light, Green Light, cooperative team games, or studio games that build coordination, listening skills, and teamwork.
Games are a great way to break up the day and build social confidence.

Occasional short clips may be shown strictly for educational purposes, such as:

  • Musical theatre clips
  • Famous dance pieces
  • Vocal warm-up demos
  • Stage performance examples

If you prefer that your child not have any screens, please let us know — we will provide alternate quiet activities like sketching or reading.
